xoxo.bio vs Shopify
These are not really the same category, and pretending otherwise would waste your time. Shopify Basic is $29/month billed annually ($39 monthly) with Shopify Payments at 2.9% + 30¢ online, scaling up through Grow at $89 and Advanced at $359.
Shopify is a full commerce platform: inventory, shipping, POS, B2B, multi-channel. xoxo.bio is a single creator page with native checkout for downloads, courses, bookings and memberships. If you ship boxes, Shopify. If you sell files, calls and access from a bio link, the extra machinery costs you time rather than saving it.

The subscription is not the real cost difference
On paper Shopify Basic and xoxo.bio Creator are within a couple of dollars of each other, and both charge Stripe-level card rates when you use the native processor. Compared like that, it is a wash.
The difference is the app stack. Native course delivery, bookings and subscriptions are not built into Shopify - each one is typically a paid app with its own monthly fee. Three apps at $20-40/month each is a realistic creator setup, and that is what turns a $29 plan into a $120 plan.
Note also Shopify's 2% third-party transaction fee on Basic if you process outside Shopify Payments. It decreases on higher plans, but it is a real cost of using your own gateway.
What each one is genuinely built for
Shopify is the correct answer for physical inventory. Stock levels, shipping rates, returns, POS for in-person sales, wholesale - none of that is something a creator storefront should attempt, and xoxo.bio does not.
xoxo.bio is the correct answer for the bio link: one page that holds your socials, your plain links, your section headers and your products, with checkout happening in place. A follower taps a product and buys without leaving the page.
The awkward middle is a creator with a small merch line and a course. In that case, run Shopify for the merch and xoxo.bio for the bio link and digital products, and link between them.
Payouts and control
Shopify Payments deposits directly to your bank on Shopify's payout schedule, and Shopify facilitates the card processing under its own umbrella.
xoxo.bio runs on Stripe Connect: charges happen on a Stripe account in your name, so payouts, refunds, disputes and the customer record all sit with you at Stripe. Neither model is wrong - they just put the account relationship in different places.
Choose xoxo.bio if
- Everything you sell is digital: files, courses, calls, access
- Your traffic arrives from a bio link on social, not from search or ads
- You want one page and one subscription rather than a stack of apps
- You want to be selling by tonight, not by next weekend
Choose Shopify if
- You ship physical products and need real inventory and shipping tooling
- You sell in person and need POS
- You want a full multi-page storefront with SEO-driven catalogue traffic
- You need wholesale, B2B or multi-channel marketplace selling
Common questions
- Can I sell digital products on Shopify?
- Yes, usually with an app for file delivery. It works well. The gap is courses, bookings and memberships, which each need their own third-party app on Shopify and are native on xoxo.bio.
- Is Shopify overkill for a creator?
- If you have no physical inventory, mostly yes. You will spend the setup time on catalogue, theme and shipping settings that never apply to you, and pay for apps to add what a creator storefront ships with.
- Can I use both?
- That is the sensible setup for creators with merch. Shopify runs the physical store; xoxo.bio is the bio link that sells digital products and links out to the Shopify store.
- How do the card rates compare?
- Shopify Payments is 2.9% + 30¢ online on Basic, dropping to 2.7% on Grow and 2.5% on Advanced. xoxo.bio uses Stripe's standard 2.9% + $0.30 on your own account and adds nothing on top.
