xoxo.bio vs Gumroad
This is the cleanest comparison of the four, because the models are opposites. Gumroad has no monthly fee and takes 10% + $0.50 on direct sales (30% on sales it sources through Discover). xoxo.bio charges $27/month and takes 0%.
Gumroad is also merchant of record, which means it handles sales tax and VAT for you. That is a genuine service, not just a fee, and it is the main reason to accept the percentage.

Where the crossover actually is
Gumroad's 10% + $0.50 on direct sales means the fee scales exactly with your revenue. On $270/month in sales you pay roughly $27 plus the per-transaction fifty cents - the same as xoxo.bio's Creator plan. Below that, Gumroad is cheaper. Above it, the gap widens fast.
At $2,000/month in direct sales, Gumroad's cut is about $200 plus $0.50 per order. At $10,000/month it is about $1,000. The $27 subscription does not move. If you sell a $30 product 300 times a month, that difference is most of a mortgage payment.
The 30% Discover rate only applies when Gumroad's own marketplace finds the buyer for you. That is a fair trade for traffic you did not have to earn - just do not model your whole business on it.
Merchant of record is the real Gumroad advantage
Since January 2025 Gumroad has been merchant of record on all sales, which means it takes on your sales tax and VAT obligations. For a creator selling into the EU, that removes a genuinely unpleasant compliance problem.
xoxo.bio does not do this. Sales are charged on your own Stripe account, which means the tax position is yours. If you sell internationally at volume and do not have an accountant, that is a real reason to pay Gumroad's percentage.
A storefront page versus product pages
Gumroad is built around products first. The profile page exists, but it is not the point, and it is not something you design.
xoxo.bio is built around the page first: one link that carries your socials, your products, your booking calendar, your email signup and your plain links, all editable directly on the live page. If your traffic comes from a bio link rather than a marketplace, the page is the thing doing the selling.
Choose xoxo.bio if
- You are doing more than about $300/month in sales and want the fee to stop scaling
- You want money in your own Stripe account with normal payout timing
- You sell calls or bookings alongside digital products
- Your traffic comes from your own audience, not a marketplace
Choose Gumroad if
- You want zero fixed cost and only pay when you sell
- You want sales tax and VAT handled for you as merchant of record
- You want a shot at marketplace discovery through Gumroad Discover
- You sell occasionally rather than continuously
Common questions
- At what revenue does xoxo.bio become cheaper than Gumroad?
- Around $270 a month in direct sales, where Gumroad's 10% equals the $27 Creator subscription. Above that, every extra dollar of revenue costs you 10% on Gumroad and nothing on xoxo.bio.
- Does xoxo.bio handle sales tax like Gumroad does?
- No. Gumroad is merchant of record and handles sales tax and VAT. On xoxo.bio you sell through your own Stripe account, so tax compliance is yours. If that matters more than the percentage, Gumroad is the better answer.
- Can I use both?
- Plenty of creators do - Gumroad for one-off downloads that might catch Discover traffic, xoxo.bio as the bio-link storefront and checkout for everything else. You can link a Gumroad product from an xoxo.bio page.
- Does Gumroad support bookings?
- No. Coaching calls and consultations are not a supported product type on Gumroad. xoxo.bio has native bookings with availability and time zone handling.
